Laurie Ellen's Shortbread Trio

Laurie Ellen's Shortbread Trio

There would be no GOOD THINGS without Laurie Ellen. This master baker, recipe-tester, organizational genius, and dear friend has worked alongside me for over 20 years. We first met when she worked at Berkeley’s Acme Bread and I’d harriedly come in to buy bread for Eccolo. A few years later, we began collaborating at Tartine Bakery, where I cooked monthly dinners and she worked as a pastry chef. Over the years, she has helped with every one of my hare-brained projects, tested every single one of my recipes, assisted me in cooking demos and photo shoots around the world, and generally helped keep me sane. And over the last five years, she has held my hand and supported me steadily as I worked on GOOD THINGS. On top of that, she has built and grown an incredible business making exquisite shortbread cookies, crackers, and savory snacks. This woman is an otherworldly force, and I am so grateful to know and love her. No one knows GOOD THINGS better than Laurie Ellen, so it’s no surprise that the cookies she’s developed for this collaboration represent some of the book’s most special flavors. Every time I taste one, I think, “This one’s my favorite! No, this one!” I have no doubt you’ll feel the same way. — Samin

SAMIN NOSRAT x LAURIE ELLEN "GOOD THINGS" COOKIE TIN

A limited-edition cookie tin celebrating the September release of Samin Nosrat’s second cookbook. Inside are three shortbread flavors: one drawn directly from Laurie Ellen’s recipe featured in the book, and two more inspired by recipes from its pages. A longtime collaborator and supporter of Samin, Laurie Ellen created this exclusive collection to honor their partnership and the spirit of sharing at the heart of GOOD THINGS.

Flavors:

  • Cardamom Shortbread — the actual recipe from GOOD THINGS that you can recreate at home

  • Preserved Lemon Poppyseed Shortbread — golden-hued with turmeric, inspired by Samin's Preserved Lemon paste. Sweet, salty, and bright with Amalfi coast limoncello notes.

  • Burnt Honey Shortbread — inspired by both the Russian Honey Icebox Cake and Burnt Honey Hot Fudge recipes in GOOD THINGS  featuring burnt honey, dulce de leche, and cinnamon

Featured Sourcing: Features spices from Oaktown Spice Shop and preserved lemon paste from Tart Vinegar.
